Visiting

Stenungsund sits on the mainland shore of Askeröfjorden, an hour north of Gothenburg. Here is how to reach it, where to stay, and what is worth seeing if you have an afternoon.

Getting here

The journey

Göteborg Landvetter is the nearest international airport, about 55 km away. However you arrive, the last hour is by road.

  1. By air

    Göteborg Landvetter (GOT)

The region's international airport, with direct connections across Europe. Copenhagen and Oslo are the usual hubs for arrivals from further afield. From the airport it is about an hour by road: a taxi is the simplest way in, and worth booking ahead if you land late or there are four of you with sail bags. Hire cars are available at the terminal if you would rather have one for the week.

  2. By road

    E6 north, then route 160

North from Gothenburg on the E6, then west on route 160 across the Tjörn bridges. About an hour from the city. Crews driving down from Oslo should allow around three.

Staying

Where to sleep

Mid-June is high season on this coast and the local supply of beds is not large. Book early.

Recommended

Stenungsbaden Yacht Club

Stenungsund

Book here first. It is the closest hotel to the boats and to the regatta's social programme, it sits on the water with its own restaurants, and it is large enough to put most of the crews under one roof — which matters more than it sounds when the prize giving runs late.

Booking codeIOD202715% off for competitors. Quote it when you book.

IOD Fleet Sweden

Staying with the fleet

It is customary at these championships for the host fleet to put up visiting crews, and some beds with local sailors are expected to be available. How many is not yet settled. Details will follow closer to the event — please do not count on one until then.
